Logo Design Brief

Please read all of the design brief! On Feb 18th two new logos idea was added, please see the bottom of this overview for more details.

Earth Deeds is an environmental organization that empowers groups to support sustainability projects by using online tools to measure and respond to their environmental impacts. The basic idea is as follows:

1. The EARTH gives us resources (e.g. fossil fuels, food...) needed to live our lives and do things together.
2. GROUPS (e.g. weddings, conferences, organizations...) acknowledge these gifts and their impacts by donating to environmental projects.
3. PROJECTS (e.g. solar power, community gardens...) give back to the Earth.

Two potential tag lines we're playing with (but don't expect in the logo) are:

1) Acknowledging our impacts; giving back to the Earth
2) Conscious Actions for a Sustainable World

We’re looking for a simple, memorable and timeless logo that expresses the following qualities:

• Inspiration
• Collaboration/Connection
• Community-based
• Sustainable
• Heroism
• Local / Global

Shanti's logo idea - added Feb 18th, 2013. We would like some designs that represent this idea, but we also still want new unique ideas of your own. There was also an image uploaded showing the concept of this design.
- Circle of humans holding hands on the top
- Earth on the bottom
- One arrow on the right going from earth to the circle of humans.
- One arrow on the left going from the circle of humans to the earth

Dan's logo idea - added Feb 18th. Another idea would be to symbolically represent the three relationships described in the brief (see below) with three circles and/or some variation on a recycling symbol. The Earth and Groups are pretty easy to represent with a globe and a group of people if desired. It is less clear how to represent Projects.

On Feb 18th two new logos idea was added to the design brief, please see below for more details. However, if you have not done so already, please read all of the design brief.

And one important detail regarding these design ideas - we would also very much still like original, creative ideas to be submitted. We do not want to limit the rest of the entries to these two ideas.

(One file was uploaded with a crude graphical example of this concept - see the design brief file upload section.)

Requirements
Must have
  • • Please design in vector format so it can be scaled to any size
    • Capitalize Earth Deeds (i.e. not earth deeds)
Nice to have
  • • For color, we prefer healthy, natural greens and blues, but the logo needs to also be effective without color
    • We'd like to see some logos with an Earth and some without, but try to avoid clichés and please do not put the U.S. in the center
    • Use of sacred geometry would be a bonus
    • The three components (Earth, People, Projects) could be worked into a logo (e.g. a recycling logo), but it would need to be simple and symbolic (we could then create a more complex design for the website that elaborates on this triad)
Should not have
  • Avoid depictions of negative images (e.g. pollution, "enemies")
