I just stumbled upon this contest and did a quick sketch based on your requirements. Feedback on the design would be much appreciated in order to iterate the design to further match your desire and creating a mobile version based on that. The current version is clearly shrinkable to mobile size with minimal change in overall style. Though per request I could do a demo for that if you'd like.
