A logo for a Philosophical Epic on a Magic Hat

This is what None was looking for in their logo design

I had a logo made for a wonderful brotherly project some years ago, and the project has now turned into a book for the cover of which I need an improved logo.
It should be composed and proportioned EXACTLY as the one I attach, with the EXACT same hat, but the main change would be to give it both a modern and an ancient feel. I attach the PSD and EPS formats so you can work on that. The modern feel is already there, from the 3D shape, and the ancient could come from maybe a linen textured kepi and a more ancient looking earth. The feather should also look a little more like a writer's quill but it should still have the blood in it. I also need a star at a distance on top, appearing to shine subtly to symbolize hope in something greater. The colors should remain the same except on the earth to which beige could be added, maybe, for the ancient feel. Besides, White, blue, red and green should be the sole colors.
