Logo Design Brief
My company offers building construction services. The president is:
- Ticked Journeyman Carpenter
- MA degree from Oxford in Heritage restoration and Vernacular architecture.
Engi means 'interrelated, interconnected and interdependent. This definition reflects both our understanding of a well managed building process but also the specific characteristics of well designed space
My MA degree in Vernacular architecture( which is essentially the study of the relationship between buildings and people,the anthropology of built space), and Heritage restoration theory and practice, had a profound effect on the way I look at buildings and the creation of built space, and the effects built space has on us as individuals and on society.
The corp name Engi reflects an understanding that well designed buildings and public spaces start first and foremost with the individuals needs within that space. Well designed and constructed spaces become extensions of the people and cultures who use them
The current company is very much in its infancy, 2 yrs young and in the process of merging its very practical skill set in general construction experience with my (the president) keen interest in the relationship between buildings, built spaces and human well being.
As a company we are seeking to be involved in unique projects with dynamic people. We are not your average construction company nor do we compete with standard industry.
The name Engi reflects an ethos of engagement with built space but also the way in which we run our projects; from design-planning-prints-construction, its an interrelated process. The logo should reflect this ethos (see website for an in-depth write up) and not a logo necessarily directly tied/interpreted to the 'construction' of things as we offer more than that.
One of the company's long term goals would be able to work with a first nations community here in Canada and completely redesign reservation living. This would entail a rigorous consultation process with an architect and anthropologist where the real 21century values of the First Nations Community are defined and interpreted through the design and architecture of individual houses and an integrated community model.
I hope this is all confusing enough to you all! We are a unique company, I suspect the logo chosen will have to reflect this!
Our squarespace website (developed in house, needs work also!) It does however help to describe our values as a company. We do niche market (do not read trendy) projects, where clients are looking for very specific things, skills and experience for their building needs.

Should not have
- Logo, like the name should not be limited in terms of its overall interpretation. Like the corp name - engi, logo should remain open to interpretation in some respects, but 'legible' in its meaning. In other words, I would suggest a logo that reflects the way or philosophical approach the company takes with its projects over a logo that reflects what we do, i.e build things, as we do more than just build, its more about an ethos of the creation of built space.
