Illustration Design Brief

We are seeking 5 digital stamp designs. Digital stamps, or digi stamps, are black and white digital images that are downloaded, printed out, and colored by paper crafters for use in their projects. They are printed, colored and embellished, then cut out and incorporated into handmade cards, gift tags, scrapbooks and a whole wide range of other papercraft projects. We are willing to purchase more than one submission if the quality turns out the way we expect.

We are looking for a set of 5 stamps for each submission. If you'd like to submit more stamps you are welcome to, but our goal is quality not quantity. The stamps can be issued as a set of individual stamps that can be used in a complimentary manner, or they can be a set of completely different themed stamps (for instance: a horse, a valentine stamp, a tree and a completely unrelated sentiment). Stamps that are entered into this contest MUST be originals and cannot be currently sold in any other offline or online store or marketplace such as Etsy.

We have not seen any contests run for stamps in this community before. We will guarantee the budget once we see if this is a good place to generate stamps. We believe that the quality of mass produced stamps that exist on the market is little match for the talent that exists in this marketplace.

In the image attached to this project, the dog, the little birdie, the sentiment "You Rock" and the flowers are all stamps examples.

  • Design Tips

Be sure to keep in mind the end-audience for these stamps – The Papercraft community. These designs will be used to create cards, scrapbook pages, tags and the like. Therefore it is important to understand that these stamps will often be used with other materials and images. If you are unfamiliar with this form, check out the following URL to see what crafters are making in this category: http://www.scrapbookingblogs.org/

Keep in mind seasonality and events when designing your stamps. For instance a birthday theme, Valentine’s day, a scrapbook to memorialize a veteran, a new birth announcement, etc. You can choose to submit a themed set of stamps, or you can choose to simply provide individual stamps that do not relate to a single theme

You may choose to not only include stamps of images such as trees and original characters, but also text embellishments and sentiments

Stamps cannot contain images of copyrighted material such as Disney characters or the like. Each design must be original artwork

If you would like to give the inspiration behind your theme, please do so. You also may choose to name your themed submissions. The more detail you provide about your submission may put you over the top.

Designs must be in good taste. While we are open to all manners of designs from edgy and hip to cute and whimsy, please keep away from distasteful, politically incorrect, or contentious designs.

    Deliverables
Final stamps should be delivered a high resolution (300 dpi) .psd file

The final stamps can be delivered in a set or in individual files. If delivered in a set, each stamp should be on a separate layer in photoshop.

The file size should allow for the ability to resize from very large to very small – the images will be printed and thus need to be made in a format that ensures for high print quality

If you’d like to include samples of how your stamps can be colored or what your stamps would look like in a papercraft project (such as a finished card, finished tag, or finished scrapbook page), that could aid you in final design selection
