Logo Design Brief
The Law Office of Alex Harper (that's me) needs a logo for all purposes. Something I can use on my website, on business cards, on stationary and in newspaper advertising. I am a solo criminal defense attorney based in the East Bay Area (East part of the San Francisco Bay Area) in Oakland, CA. I need a logo that will help generate a feeling of security and confidence in potential clients. A logo that conveys strength, knowledge, and integrity. I want the logo to be up-to-date, but a certain old-worldliness would be nice. Please avoid scales of justice, gavels, pillars unless presented in a very original way. Bold color(s), sharp lines. Nothing overly simple nor overly complicated. Working a harp into the design is a possibility, but only if it has the elements of strength, security and defense.
Thank you for your creative efforts!
Updates
Project Deadline Extended Reason: Unexpected delays in my court schedule have prevented me from fully interacting with designers about their submissions. I want to give full positive constructive feedback for every submission, and to fully develop the most promising of them. This extension is necessary for me to properly interact with you for us to find the best logo design we can.Thank you for working with me on this, and thank you all for your high quality submissions. Project Deadline Extended Reason: As a trial attorney, things can get busy very quickly. In this case, I was pulled into a trial that was a hard fight. I simply had no time to give feedback on some of the later submitted designs. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to any of you. Added Thursday, October 16, 2014

Requirements
Must have
- Strength, a feel of authority with a clean design. Masculine. I've attached some logos that I think are well designed, although the elements may not be applicable. They are included more to show a range of complexity and generally help you zero in on my tastes.
Nice to have
- Graphic elements that suggest knowledge, strength, integrity.
- Note: I've updated this and taken out the suggestions of specific elements. I'm looking for originality. A little abstract is OK, but not TOO abstract.
- I am a former Navy Officer and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for combat service. While I don't expect any of that to be incorporated into the design, you may consider it.
- Because my name is "Harper", inclusion of a harp image might be a possibility.
- This alternate use of "A. F. Harper" is OK, too.
Should not have
- Cliche legal elements, such as scales, pillars, or gavels UNLESS they are integrated and designed in interesting and original ways.
- If a single initial is used it should be an "H" for Harper, not an "A" for Alex.
- Because they mean the same thing, don't use both "Esq." and Attorney at Law.
