Logo Design Brief

I need a logo for a company called GroundSource, a platform for turning mobile phones into conduits for real-time human experience, enabling journalists, researchers and many others to quickly tune in and actively listen to the thoughts, feelings and needs of people, anywhere in the world.

I've created a draft of the logo I want and attached examples as a jpeg here. I need a professional designer to take these files and give them some polish and design to make them look clean, modern, and beautiful.

- I want to use the Novecento Wide Demi Bold and Wide Light fonts for the wordmark.
- I'd like both the full-size and button versions to look glossy or have a glow - not sure which yet
- At the top of each of the logos, I want the image of a community of people to become apparent in the negative space created by a gridded collection of small boxes or pixels.
- I want GroundSource to be positioned at the bottom of the logo, to highlight the "grounded" nature of the project. The bits or boxes at the top of the logo articulate the idea that through the collection of bits of information, GroundSource helps reveal and elevate patterns of human experience

The successful design will work in print and on the web, and will display a professionalism and modern design sensibility.

I want options to choose from, so try a few things and upload them. If I see that a designer "gets" what I'm looking for, I will let you know.

Thanks, Andrew

Updates

Hi all: Based on the strength of what I've seen so far, I've made this project non-refundable.

If you have time, and are inclined to do so, have some fun with making the logo indicative of the human intent of this platform. After all, what we're building will enable us to paint a more empathetic, nuanced and human picture of people's hopes, dreams, struggles and unmet needs.

You're designers, and I'm not, but I see potential to add small design elements that make this feel more human and warmer ... but also trustworthy and technology forward. Sorry if this is too vague, I'm hoping one or two of these concepts will spark some inspiration.

I also really like this color scheme, and think it could add warmth to a concept that should also use black and dark grey to impart solidity and trust.

Thanks for your efforts so far, regardless of whether or not I choose your design. This has already been a great experience!

You can contact me directly at andrew@groundsourcing.com.

Best, Andrew

I'm now playing around with a gardening concept for GroundSource, to position what we do as something akin to story gardening (cultivating stories, helping people grow their karma, etc). I'd love to see a small, simple plant or seedling icon centered and directly above a very simple word mark logo.

I created an icon for alerts users will get in the application to give you an idea of what I have in mind:

It feels a bit like designers are struggling with the brief a bit. I expected this to be an iterative "I'll know it when I see it" process, and while I've seem strong designs, I'm not feeling it yet

Let me try to reframe the concept, and see if this sparks some new design directions.

GroundSource will give us an empathetic view of life as it's lived, on the ground level. It provides journalists and researchers a privileged view into a world, helping them understand people better.

I feel like the human element has been missing from the designs (largely due to my overly vague brief, no doubt). But now I realize this is all about understanding people and their lives. The mobile phone and the platform are all just the technologies that facilitate this.

So I'd love to see some designs that humanize the logo, emphasizing empathy, understanding, trustworthiness, honesty, and solidity.

Also, I'm a fan of the bariol font, Geo Sans. Sans serif, modern, straightforward. Thanks!

Reason: The concepts are getting stronger, but I've not yet seen the right mix of simple, modern fonts, a logo that is equally as simple and clean, and colors that make it feel warm. I'll share more design ideas tomorrow. - Andrew

Reason: I need to rethink my design brief in light of the work I've seen come in. Nothing has quite clicked yet. I'll share more thoughts this week. - Andrew
