Logo Design Brief

One of my clients is developing a campaign to promote awareness about the devastating impact of trauma on people's lives.

She compares trauma to a "white noise" that is always there…. staying with a person in the background, impacting their daily lives…. and they often don't hear it or even realize the impact victimization has had on them, many from an early age.

In addition, she believes that mental health and criminal justice professionals need to "hear the white noise" as well to better understand the destructive behavior of typically drug-addicted individuals and mental health populations in the criminal justice system…. and they must learn to identify it and treat it effectively.

The goal of her campaign is to first create a symbol that captures the message of the "white noise" of trauma…. And then use it to build awareness of trauma, and then use that awareness to ensure that professionals learn how to identify trauma and to treat it in the criminal justice system.

She was a victim of childhood trauma and work in a nation leadership role in the criminal justice field, where many individuals that experienced trauma or abuse as young people often carry that pain with them and, sometimes, become either drug offenders or develop mental health issues that cause criminal behavior.

The campaign is called the "White Noise Campaign" and they are looking for a logo and symbol that truly captures the issue of trauma and the need for hope and healing among it's victims.

I want to emphasize that she is looking for an easily recognizable symbol of this issue of trauma…. the pain, but need for comfort and healing…. It could be some form of image or something that integrates a visual of what "white noise" looks like with the words "White Noise Campaign." It's a challenge to create a visual on this, and hope you are all excited about the challenge of the project!

Target Market(s)

The market is broad…. victims of trauma and abuse, criminal justice professionals that work with men, women and children in the criminal justice system who suffer from drug addiction and mental health issues that may be due to trauma…. Media that we hope will call attention to this important public health issue…. Foundations that we hope will fund the campaign….

Nice to have

• We were considering whether the statement "Listen to the white noise" should be a part of the logo…. or if we should only have the graphic. Not sure…. but would be interested to see some efforts to build that into a few designs…. might be too much language.
