Poster Design Brief

We need a unique poster design for a British crime feature film that will have a small UK release in a few months time. The film is a stylish low budget London crime film, about a rather unusual bunch of drug dealers - Welsh Jamaicans, Afghans, Russians & Londoners. The film has a wicked sense of humour, and is drenched in hard drugs and cool characters.. Plenty of attitude. We want the poster to have a strong character/identity or style of it's own.

The story/style is pretty grungy and violent, but with a black sense of humour. It involves drug dealers/gangsters in contemporary London, drugs, violence, a fun ride and lots of attitude. Influenced a little by Lock Stock or Tarantino, yes, but with a original and new tone and story. The plot revolves around a heroin deal gone very wrong with some crazy and hilarious characters, motorbikes, lots of hard drugs guns, hapless Russian henchmen, a night of mayhem on the streets of London - but it's a bit more than that. The story and characters are very different to the typical gangster fare.

Above all the poster needs to be:
1. Eye catching, striking & stylized
2. Highly intriguing.
3. Some hint at drugs/violence
4. Hint at cool characters or sense of quirkiness

We simply want something surprising or intriguing that will realy sell this film, or make people look twice when they see the poster/DVD. NOTE: probably THE USP of the film is the very funny Welsh Jamaican drug dealers who are main characters. There has never been characters quite like them in a movie before.

The design will need to be developed into a full size movie poster - printable, at high rez (27x40 inches). It will also be used for DVD covers...etc...

It must be eye catching and really be very intriguing.... perhaps hint at the drugs, action, attitude and violence but with a very strong sense of character/identity. Possibly a Banksyesque stencil/cutout style could be a subtle influence but open to ideas. Plus perhaps a twist of humour, as the characters are larger than life - especially the hilarious-yet-violent 'Welsh-Jamaican' gangsters above mentioned.

This is intended for the poster/DVD campaign for the movie, and will want .psd files handed over, so we can add names/credits etc...

NOTE on images provided (please do not feel that you have to use any of the characters or images - we are also very interested to see pure graphics posters with drugs/London themes, or sillouettes/stencils etc). If you do want to use the images, then the more graphically stylised or degraded/textured the image, probably the better. We'd rather move away from the photo quality style. Also, using fewer faces/characters will probably be stronger.

NOTE 3: on images:
Main character - a likeable small time dealer who gets in way too deep with a big heroin deal.
Featured characters - Two Welsh-Jamaican arms traffickers (yes!!) Funny and recklessly violent.
Supporting Characters: A very nasty corrupt police detective, a female Afghan opium smuggler and a gang of Russian thugs.

The winning design is likely to be used on DVD covers as well as posters for the film so will get some exposure. Also we will want .PSD files of winning design so we can add text/slogans/credit blocks later on ourselves.

Please do think outside the box. We want to see what you can come up with on this theme. NOTE: you don't have to use ANY of the images we have provided on the download link above. We are interested in both character posters and non-character based posters.
