Logo Design Brief

After first round design results were too broad I now changed my brief completely, making it much more concrete so the best design would be the one that combines a simple, elegant, modern design of a jellyfish (maybe with a meaning) with a clear but not too dominant supporting text.

logo style:

- combo logo or pictorial logo only (no word mark, no letter mark logo)
- put pictorial mark as the most dominant and outstanding logo element so that it could have an effect and could be used even without the font
- emphasis should be on the logotype not the word
- both logotype and word should form a good combination, most likely "re-generate" word below the pictorial mark

logo object:

- using a jellyfish as a basis; inspiration from "immortal jellyfish" on google images: https://www.google.com/search?q=immortal+jellyfish&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=pKHxU8CCDqif0QXSxoH4Cg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1440&bih=644
- keep jellyfish bell/umbrella to fully coloured half circle or keep otherwise simple and abstract
- keep tentacles abstract and stylised but still lively / dynamic; see here some other jellyfish logos: https://stocklogos.com/category/jellyfish ( especially like the "digital jellyfish" (2nd row, 2nd logo), "Deco Redux" (3rd row, 5th) and "jellifish" (3rd row, 6th))
- use circles, more stylised lines or other clearer shapes as tentacles
- still find a way that the jellyfish can be recognised as such
- feel free to suggest a jellyfish that has a double meaning by adding a shape inside the umbrella or using the tentacles - but this is not absolutely necessary; just some spontaneous ideas:
* combination of jellyfish and world
* combination of jellyfish and core for regeneration inside its umbrella (like the immortal jellyfish has a red core)
* jellyfish body as protection or tree or ...

colours:

- background: none / white
- pictorial mark: red, orange, pink, violet colour palette preferred; second option: blue colour palette
- pictorial mark: use 1 or preferably 2 or 3 colours
- pictorial mark and word: use solid colours, no fading shadows, no fading colours or highlights - if highlights needed then please use solid colour areas to distinguish from the rest
- word mark: grey, (black) or other colour that fits the brand mark

word / font:

- needs to fit the final pictorial mark, not too dominant
- can have highlights in bold or different colour if this is in line with the pictorial mark and does not distract
- needs to be less important and supportive / complementary to the pictorial mark

Background to company (FYI):

Need for a logo for a small innovative environmental consultancy to advise businesses and international organisations (UN), but later also consumers, on environmental matters and the use of renewable, more sustainable materials, techniques, products. It is active in communications, international project development and management, market research / consultancy, government affairs etc. It plans to expand into technology development / innovation, design, manufacturing, sustainability.

Some keywords:

-- environment, sustainability
-- marketing, communications, business & consulting services, solution provider
-- development, engineering, manufacturing and use / re-use of new and/or currently unused innovative, sustainable materials, technologies, techniques, products and services
-- ethics, responsibility, accountability of this generation for future generations
-- proactivity, (value) creation, creativity, innovation, imagination, renewal, reinvention

The logo could portray both meanings of "regeneration" and "Re-generation":

regeneration:

-- circular economy, closed loop cycle, industrial ecology
-- reuse of materials / waste-free development / avoidance of loss of resources
-- development, engineering, manufacturing and use / re-use of new and/or currently unused innovative, sustainable materials, technologies, techniques, products and services
-- design of industrial, commercial, consumer, art objects
-- creation, innovation, imagination
-- synonyms / abstract concepts for "regeneration": resurgence, revitalization, revival, revivification, renewal, reconstituting, rebirth, immortality, eternity

Re-Generation:

"We and our children are going to have to be the 'Re-Generation', and summon the will, energy, focus, and innovative prowess to regenerate, renew, and reinvent... in a way that will show the world a new model for growing standards of living and interacting with nature that is truly sustainable, renewable, healthy, safe, fair, and creative of more opportunities for more people in more places than ever before." - quote from book "Hot, flat and crowded", Thomas L. Friedman

-- sustainability, environment, health
-- ethics, responsibility, accountability of this generation for future generations = Re-Generation
-- proactivity, creation, creativity, innovation, imagination
-- new ideas, products, designs, services
-- value creation, principles, convictions
-- renewal, reinvention
-- collaboration, crowdsourcing, cooperation, societal movement

Requirements
Must have
  • see "Project Overview" section

suitable for company's print and online publications, business cards, reports, campaigns etc.

    only pictorial / combination logo

logo should have 1-3 colours, not only black-white - ideally fresh, strong and non-fading colours that are ok with international cultural preferences and meanings, fitting the content - preference for red, orange, pink, violet colour shades to portray dynamic movement of jellyfish (= contradiction in the logo)

needs to also be recognizable / printable in b/w or at least in grey shades - so impact only through colours is to be avoided (rather through shape)

strong preference for the logo to have a closed shape with clearly defined edges or solid colour surfaces

clean and simple but can have double meaning with a "twist" so that its first impression changes at a second glance

modern, professional character for a young enterprise that attaches great value to the environmental dimension

logo is serious enough for a business-to-business clientele but should also be young, ideally not too abstract - could reflect the double meaning of re-generation / Re-Generation or at least one of them

high recognition / distinction factor, so avoiding designs that are already widely used - see comment regarding lifeless bank and insurance-type logos
Nice to have
  • preferred: can be used as a trademark / "stamp" on products using sustainable techniques, technologies, materials - in this case a pictoral or abstract mark, character or anything that is visually attractive with a high recognition factor would be good
Should not have
  • no Web 2.0 or plain letter mark or word mark, needs to have independent pictorial mark (jellyfish)

preferably no fading colours or shadows as difficult for print; no rainbow colour logos with lots of shades - at least avoiding too many different colour shades (can have multiple colours but needs to look good in grey shades)

no "caligraphy" / handwriting or serife type of font
