Logo Design Brief

We deal primarily within the engineering / technical sector. Need a new corporate logo style that can be utilised across all usual on and offline media. We are ideally looking for a logo that is, or includes an element of image rather than just text. Would favour either the established 'safe pair of hands' style or perhaps a more contemporary/web professional style. Not the obvious 'engineering' style.
