Poster Design Brief

East Lansing is a new play by W. L. Newkirk. The name East Lansing refers to the location of the 1966 Notre Dame - Michigan State American football game. The play follows Mary Ryan, who is approaching 70, as she unwillingly participates in a date dinner with Matthew Kelly, navigates the morning after at his apartment, and leaves, 15 months later, to take his granddaughter to college following her marriage to Matthew and his death. The play explores the definition of family, sex and aging, true love, overwhelming loss, political fanaticism, sexual assault, college football and “days of the week” panties. During the play, Mary tells lies, solves a mystery, picks a fight, critiques flavored condoms, loses her true love and survives. She lives her mother’s adage that “Being a woman is messy.” The poster will need an easily editable area for the theater and show time.
