The Retail Workshop is a startup based in Tucson, Arizona that is focused on developing online retail management simulations for both the academic and professional markets. Our key sales call point will be both professors/instructors at the university and community college levels (though their students will ultimately be the principal users of the site) and owners/HR professionals in small to mid-size retail companies.
We are looking for a corporate logo for our new company. We want the design to blend two main elements. First, a strong sense of professionalism that will project to the instructors/owners that this is a valuable and effective tool in their classroom or employee development. In our mind that means something that is clean, free of any busy graphic elements (e.g., drop shadows, etc.). Second, it also needs to have a sense of fashion, "cool", and/or "urban" that will appeal to the younger users of the site and its programs. This may be through the choice of colors but also font/layout. It has to feel like it has been around for awhile but is still fresh. We are open to a variety of color schemes/combinations but are interested in designs that use purples/greens/blues. We would also prefer - but are open to alternatives - to have some sort of abstract or conceptual illustration along with the logo text - something we could use separate from the company name itself. The abstract element, though, should be more about retail than online.
Updates
I wanted to add a clarification on the logo design. We would like some type of abstract or conceptual illustration/graphic to the logo but it is important that it somehow projects something from the retailing industry. This could be a storefront (very simplified), store layout, store fixtures, cash register, customer/clerk interaction, customer/product interaction, etc. None of these should be busy with lots of elements in the design but, alongside "The Retail Workshop" should be clearly seen as something to do with retailing.
