Logo Design Brief
We are updating the logo design for our marketing consulting firm.
Small business owners are challenged with being the head of sales, HR, accounting, legal, operations and marketing of their firms. With the number one job being head of sales, they often struggle to find the time to commit to setting up and managing marketing programs to help their efforts.
With limited budgets, business owners can't afford to hire senior strategic marketing executives, nor do they have the time to manage entry-level marketing staff.
Technology companies have attempted to solve the marketing problem for small businesses with software and online services. But the typical business person would have to be versed in at least half a dozen programs to be able to run their company's website, email marketing, social media, CRM and analytics programs.
Blue Egg Marketing provides small, growth-stage companies with top-notch marketing without the expense of hiring full-time resources. We are experts in developing and executing marketing plans and programs tailored to the needs of growing businesses, and we help them “punch above their weight class” to effectively compete in the market.
We need our new logo to reflect our ability to incubate companies through their growth stage and towards profitability (metaphorically “hatching”).
We want to reinforce our customers’ perception of Blue Egg as marketing experts that are nimble, friendly and cost-effective. We want our customers to rely upon us as an extension of their own companies, their "marketing department."
Updates
Source files for the original logo have been added to the creative brief. You may consider evolving designs off of this image. We don't like the font.

Requirements
Must have
- The logo must include the company's name (Blue Egg Marketing) and the main color is blue. The Blue Egg name was inspired by the color of eggs that are laid by robins.
We are open to interpretations that include the egg alone or with a bird inside the hatched egg.
Nice to have
- Our old logo (http://www.blueeggmarketing.com/storage/logo_color_gif.gif) features an egg that has hatched. The idea is that Blue Egg helps its clients move beyond their incubation stage (hatch).
However, we would like to consider having the bird still inside the egg. The metaphor is similar (we incubate clients in their growth stage), but would include the bird for some added personality.
Some logos that we like include:
Marketing Profs: They have a nice blue bird - we particularly like the simplicity and that it's easy to reproduce in a variety of sizes and for both print and web:

Hatchwise: This is very close to what we had imagined initially (but we obviously don't want to be too similar). Love the concept of the bird poking out of the egg, and the simplicity of the design. However, we'd prefer not to use gradients in the logo:

Twittelator Neue: A nice blue egg with some character, but too much use of gradients for our needs/tastes:

Twitter: While this logo is ubiquitous, what we love about it is the simplicity of the design (especially the clean lines) and the fact that it's easy to adapt to any format (or even play off of it):

Should not have
- The design should use modern, sans-serif fonts, so no serif/formal fonts. We want the design to look good regardless of size and in both color & black/white, so please no gradients or other intricate elements that would not resize well.
