New bio-based design studio needs a distinctive identity
Logo Design Brief
Thallus Studio — Logo Design Brief
THALLUS is a biological term for the body of organisms such as fungi and algae. It represents natural growth, living structures and organic forms — reflecting our use of biological materials and our approach to design.
1. About the Brand
Thallus Studio is a new premium European interior-design brand creating beautiful objects and architectural elements from natural and bio-based materials.
We are starting with a collection of modular wall objects made partly from mycelium-based materials.
The long-term vision is much broader:
Lighting
Planters
Furniture
Table objects
Sculptures
Custom interior installations
The brand should feel like a serious design house, not a sustainable-materials company.
2. Brand Philosophy
Where nature takes form.
We are inspired by natural growth, organic structures, Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian design.
We want to translate the quiet beauty and complexity of nature into refined objects for modern interiors.
Slogan / Tagline
“Where nature takes form.”
The tagline should be treated as a secondary brand element, not necessarily incorporated into the primary logo.
Please explore how the wordmark and symbol work with and without the tagline.
The primary identity should remain strong and recognizable without it.
3. Important — Original Professional Design
We are looking for original professional graphic design and creative thinking.
Please do not use generative AI to create the logo concepts or final artwork.
We do not want:
AI-generated logo marks
AI-generated typography
Stock logos
Templates
Generic logo-generator concepts
We want to see your own design thinking, typography, geometry, proportion and craftsmanship.
The final identity needs to be suitable for a real premium design company and capable of being used commercially for many years.
Originality, taste and quality are much more important than visual complexity or the number of variations.
4. What the Identity Should Feel Like
The identity should feel:
Organic
Premium
Architectural
Calm
Intelligent
Contemporary
European
Timeless
Tactile
Sophisticated
Slightly mysterious
Subtly edgy
Think:
Furniture/design brand + contemporary art gallery + natural material
We want something that feels considered, distinctive and highly designed.
5. Avoid Obvious Eco Clichés
Please DO NOT use:
Generic leaves
Trees
Green recycling symbols
Mushrooms
Cartoon fungi
Obvious sustainability symbols
Generic circular eco logos
Handwritten “organic” fonts
Excessive green
Rustic aesthetics
Craft-market aesthetics
Generic “eco brand” visual language
The connection to nature should be communicated subtly and intelligently.
6. Visual Inspiration
The visual language should sit somewhere between:
Japanese minimalism
Scandinavian furniture design
Contemporary European architecture
Wabi-sabi
Organic architecture
Natural geological structures
Biological structures and networks
The identity should feel credible across collectible design, furniture
We are open to unexpected interpretations.
Please don't simply illustrate nature.
Target Market(s)
