Art Design Brief

Above the front door to my house, I have a large space (approximately 4’ tall by 3’ wide with indirect lighting during the day) and I’d like to put a piece of artwork there. (Since this is exterior, it would need to be moisture / hot / cold resistant.)

As for the piece itself, I’m looking for ideas.

An off the cuff idea (since I’m a reader and used to sail): consider a sailboat with a jib and jigger (I’ve uploaded an image). Between the two masts are book spines lined up as if the boat hull were a book shelf.

I’m looking for a design that can be implemented in (singularly or some combination of): wood / metal / acrylic / (other?). The piece would then be installed in the space above my door.
