Label Design Brief

Opportunity to create a gin label design that can be extended to 12 variations for our award-winning gin subscription business. Each year we work with a new designer, and this year's theme is a trip around the world, with labels in the style of vintage/art deco travel posters.

Task description:
We are an Australian gin club (Juniper Society) that creates a new gin each month, exclusively for our members. In 2026, our theme is “Postcards from the Distillery”, where each monthly edition will showcase a gin inspired by 12 different cities across the globe.

For this project, we would like to see your interpretation of at least one and up to three label designs (the selected winner will then be commissioned to design the full 12 as an additional project). The three city options you have for this competition are:
• Bangkok
• Zanzibar
• Paris

We would like the designs to be created in a retro/art deco travel poster style. (Some examples are provided, but we welcome creativity) The design will not need to reflect any specific botanicals or key flavour characteristics of each gin but will simply identify the city, as if it were a vintage travel poster. People or animals can be incorporated but should not be the main focus. All illustrations or images must be original and created by the designer.

There will be a separate budget for the 11 additional labels once the initial label is selected.

Technical Requirements:
• The label should be no larger than 170mm (wide) x 130mm (tall)
• No foiling or emboss
• A bespoke die cut can be used, but this must be able to be applied across all 12 designs for the year
• Label will be placed on a clear 500ml bottle (Kefla Krug), as per all previous editions
• An area must be allowed for on the label to include copy. (An overlay is acceptable – as per 2022 editions). This area will usually contain around 150 words of text, plus a title, address, and other legal information required on a bottle of spirits as specified in the mandatories section
• Each label will have an edition number that needs to be incorporated some
• Each design must be created so it can be adapted into multiple formats including:
o A poster
o An animation/GIF for social media (see Juniper Society Instagram for examples)
