T-shirt Design Brief

I own a Black-owned travel company and I’m looking to have t-shirt designs created for my student tours, which are specifically designed for secondary school students, and I’d like each design to reflect one of our signature destinations, including Kenya, Guatemala, Bahia in Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, Senegal, Vietnam, and India. The designs should be engaging and stylish, appealing to students who are well-traveled and come from affluent backgrounds, and they should be attractive enough that the students would want to wear them outside of the trips as well. I especially love African-inspired art and would like to see that influence incorporated into the designs, particularly for the African destinations, while also blending a mixture of vintage imagery with contemporary inspiration to create a timeless yet fresh feel. The artwork should be high-quality and print-ready, preferably in vector format, with clear, readable visuals suitable for t-shirts, and the designs should strike a balance between fun and sophisticated to reflect the unique experience of each destination. I’m looking for creativity and originality in each design, with the potential to subtly incorporate cultural symbols, patterns, or illustrative storytelling elements that capture the essence of the location without being overwhelming, and a thoughtful color palette that works well on multiple t-shirt colors would be ideal. While I want the designs to feel inspired and imaginative, it’s important that they remain appropriate for secondary students, avoiding anything offensive, culturally insensitive, overly childish, or too text-heavy. Ultimately, the goal is to create a collection of t-shirts that not only celebrate these destinations in a visually striking way but also feel like a wearable, stylish expression of travel and adventure, blending art, culture, and contemporary design to leave a lasting impression for students and anyone who sees them.

Requirements
Must have
  • Designs must reflect the specific tour destinations (Kenya, Guatemala, Bahia Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, Senegal, Vietnam, India). Include African-inspired art elements, especially for African destinations. Appeal to secondary students who are well-traveled and come from affluent backgrounds. Designs should be stylish and attractive enough that students would want to wear them outside of trips. High-quality, print-ready artwork (vector files preferred). A mix of vintage imagery and contemporary style to give a timeless yet fresh look. Clear and readable visuals suitable for t-shirt printing.
Nice to have
  • Subtle incorporation of cultural symbols or patterns unique to each destination. Creative typography or small text elements that enhance the design. A color palette that works well on multiple t-shirt colors. Illustrative storytelling elements that capture the spirit of the location. Limited edition or signature design feel.
Should not have
  • Offensive or culturally insensitive imagery. Overly complex designs that won’t print well on fabric. Generic stock images without originality or creative interpretation. Designs that feel too childish or too mature for secondary school students. Excessive text that overwhelms the design.
