Logo Design Brief

About the non-profit:
Most children in Africa attend primary school, but they don’t learn. For example, by the end of primary school, 86% can’t read and comprehend a simple paragraph. Learning Alliance tackles this problem by supporting teachers to improve the quality of their teaching. We do so by providing them with lesson plans (see what a lesson plan is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y6pEQtz-w4B4mFG8CiN6jlSuGr38dp7q/view?usp=sharing), which are simple instructions for them to follow in every class. We also provide teacher training, ongoing teacher coaching and integrated student textbooks to support the use of lesson plans. This approach is highly effective in helping students learn basic skills like reading and math, which help them achieve higher lifetime earnings later on.

Our geographic focus is sub-Saharan Africa.

Viewers of the logo may not be english-speakers: it should convey some meaning to non-english-speakers.

Objective:
Design a logo to appear on our website, fundraising/marketing materials, and in correspondence with teachers, government officials, teacher unions, etc.

Style preferences: Simple, minimalist, clean. Simple colour palette, eg. 1-3 colours. Should work on white and dark backgrounds.

Charity name inclusion: Two options
Not as the core of the logo itself, but the name (Learning Alliance) can be positioned alongside in complementary colour and font.
The logo could be the relevant shapes described in the Style ideas section, but it is integrated into the first letter(s) of our name, Learning Alliance.


Colours: please see the attached PDF with a set of palettes that we like. We are set on the color scheme: Dark blue + Light blue + Orange/Yellow + White, the logo can use a combination of them or one of them, we are open minded towards suggestions about the palettes or beyond.

Style ideas

We imagine the logo as a literal element that represents the program, but the design is abstracted and evokes an additional element.
The literal element could be: a school, a primary school aged student, a teacher, a brain, a graduation cap.
The abstraction could evoke:
An alliance (the name of the NGO is Learning Alliance and the different parts of the alliance are government, teachers, international actors, parents, students)
There could be an element that evokes prosperity, growth, a brighter future, hope in the future, hope in the new generation. For example, a sun rising.
The logo could be the relevant shapes described above integrated into the first letter(s) of our name, Learning Alliance.

Should not have
The main element of the logo shouldn’t be a book.
Avoid completely generic geometric shapes.
Avoid complicated logos.
