Logo Design Brief

I'm looking for a logo for my metallurgical (minerals engineering) consulting company based in Perth, Australia. The metallurgy is primary (extracting metals from rocks and refining to high-purity end-products), not foundry (metals, alloying etc).

The company offers a niche service, enveloping mineral process development, laboratory testing, process engineering and feasibility studies. Generally, the preference is to focus on R&D oriented projects.

The design must be clear and simple, without being cluttered and detailed. It may be nice if it can simultaneously convey minerals and metals refining.
