Character Design Brief
I recently started a sneaker reseller business, doing buy/sell/trade. I’ve been selling sneakers pretty successfully on eBay for about a year. I created a logo, and I am interested in branching out and becoming a streetwear apparel company as well. I guess the idea would be like a “Premium Sneaker Apparel” company. I would like to get some input on my logo, and have it reworked or even just professionally updated. I have attached my current logo with a few different color options. The idea behind my logo was that you could match the design to a sneaker Colorway. I attached a couple pictures of some shirts I’ve already made as well. In addition to just the logo, I also wanted to create a character that represented the brand. I have attached a very simple sketch I did for an idea what I was thinking. The idea would be that the character could also be designed to change colors to match sneaker colorways. I thought of the character as like just a “Grafitti Street Kid.” I even did a sketch where like the character is spray painting the “Kickin Oldskool” logo. I attached a couple pics of the 3 Dollar Bill Ya’ll album cover, which is kinda like a perfect example of the character I’m looking for. The last thing I attached was a few pictures of t-shirts and brands that gave me inspiration. I have included some designs from: Effectus Clothing (obviously my character would be like their “E Bear” and able to change colors and poses to match different sneakers). Sneaker Threads is another brand/website that fits my concept. Also, The Grail Tees and SneakersMatchTees.com. These should act as a good baseline of where I’m coming from, as far as the idea of shirts matching sneakers. I don’t own any of the t shirt ideas that aren’t related to Kickin Oldskool, they are just some designs I’ve seen that I really like. The last idea I had was for the name and various ideas I had. Instead of “Kickin Oldskool”, the brand could just be “Oldskool” and then different options would be like “Skating Oldskool” and instead of having the logo be two sneakers, it could be two skateboards. Or “Jammin Oldskool” with 2 guitars. Or “Living Oldskool” with a city skyline. I included a sketch of this as well, just for reference. Then the street kid character could be like “Johnny Oldskool” and used in all sorts of different designs. The last thing to mention, I am pretty sure Vans has “Old Skool” trademarked as two words. I don’t know if that has any bearing on my design since I am using it as one word with “Kickin” in front of it. I am going to be great at communicating and very open to ideas. I really look forward to working with you all. I would love to see any early concepts or rough drafts and am always open to suggestions. Thank you.
Updates
I am extending the deadline at the request of a designer looking to get in an entry. I will be ready to select a winner soon however, so I don’t plan on letting more than a day or two pass before I make a decision. I’m still waiting on a couple of minor revisions as well. This is my first time using DesignCrowd and I gotta say I’m truly blown away with all the designs I’ve received. You guys are some amazing artists. I’ve got another contest coming up right after this one, and I’d love to have you all submit again.
