About the company:
RAW Gear is a cycling clothing start-up that is solely focused on the female market. RAW stands for Real Active Women. We want to encourage and enable women of all shapes and sizes to lead active and healthy lives through cycling and other physical activity.
What we need:
Jersey designs that are colourful, funky and feminine without being too girly. Designs will need to work on a lycra cycling jersey and look good on various body shapes from size 8-20.
Target market:
Women 35+ years of age who currently cycle regularly or have recently started and are buying gear. They will typically spend $1500 - $3000+ on their bike alone. They ride 2+ times a week and participate in cycling events a couple of times a year. Or they ride to train for other events e.g. triathlons, Iron Mans, multisport races.
Road Riders: Many are professionals/working mums and cycling is their “me” time where they get to take care of their own physical and mental wellbeing as well as socialise with friends over coffee/breakfast at the end of a road ride. Often riding early mornings on weekdays or weekends solo or as part of a group.
They want gear that looks good and they feel confident wearing.
Design likes:
Patterns and designs that will look good on women regardless of size. Bold, bright colours. Riders need to be visible on the road so minimal use of black and dark colours.
Design dislikes:
Need to avoid the old cycling adage of “shrink it and pink it” for women’s gear. Pink is ok as a secondary colour but we’re not really keen to use it as the dominant colour on a jersey.
Examples:
I have attached several designs to provide a sense of styles I think will work for the market.

- Black or dark colours as the primary, can be used as accent but the jersey needs to be bright so the rider is visible when riding on the road.
