Logo Design Brief
The Real Trainer Logo Brief
I designed a logo and website to assist my friend in making his business marketable. However, although I work in the marketing field, I am by no means a graphic designer and he is not loving the logo I created for him.

A little bit about him…
Dan Ensbey is a Personal Trainer and one of the best in his field. He is a high-energy, charismatic and emotionally intelligent guy, which gives him a great ability to connect with his clients no matter what their background, sexual orientation or social status. He is open minded, non-judgemental and is well-known and well-connected within our community. He is passionate about health and fitness, and helping his clients achieve their goals. He cares way beyond the sessions that his clients pay for and nurtures the relationships that he forms with them; extending his support to them by assisting them holistically with their overall health and well-being. Dan is also a single dad, so it’s very important to him to be able to work his business around his priorities to his daughter who lives with him full-time.
A little bit about his business and business goals…
Dan has been a Personal Trainer for 12+ years. Once Covid hit and the gyms closed, Dan lost the majority of his clients as they lost their jobs or had their hours/pay reduced. He maintained the clients that he managed to keep hold of and trained them from his home throughout the Covid lockdown. Since the gyms reopened, he has gradually been building his client base back up. Currently he trains clients at his home and also within a few gyms in our city. His current client base ranges from single mums, who he discounts his rates for to become more affordable, to doctors and dentists who pay his premium rate. Dan’s ultimate goal over the next 12 months is to gain more clients from the high-end market who are more able to pay his premium rates, which ultimately will enable him to be able to work less hours so that he can be more available to his daughter. Dan has never previously really promoted himself or his business outside of the gyms that he has worked in, hence never having a website or socials. Although he works for himself, the gym he works for has him listed as a Personal Trainer on their website and this is the only promotion he has used up to this point. He is now keen to push his own business and create a brand for himself that will help to define him and make him more recognisable within the fitness world.
The logo requirements…
I designed the current logo bearing in mind the higher-end market that Dan ultimately wants to appeal to, and this is still an important element within the logo design. The main thing that he really wants is to include an emblem within the logo. He would like the emblem to be the letters ‘TRT’, which stands for ‘The Real Trainer’. However, TRT alone is pretty non-descript, so to still include ‘The Real Trainer’ or ‘Personal Trainer’ within the logo (underneath the emblem) is still a high priority. His favourite colour is purple, hence the purple theme to his website, so ideally the logo will work within this colour palette. He is also intending to produce some merchandise for his clients including t-shirts and caps, so the logo will be used on these items too, as well as the standard business cards etc.
I have provided an example of a logo he likes, to demonstrate the kind of logo he is hoping for.
