Logo Design Brief
Problem statement
The current logo of my website "Creative Spirits" dates from the 1990s. The genie lamp reflects the "spirit" side of the name. The red colour reflects Australia's red earth.
The logo is dated and I put it together without graphical design knowledge.
I need a new logo to fit the modern look and feel I like to achieve for my website.
See attached file for the old logo.
Website profile
Creative Spirits launched in late 1999 and initially just documented my travels through Western Australia. In 2006 I added a new section about Aboriginal culture which soon became very popular and the main focus of the site. Creative Spirits now offers articles about Aboriginal culture, and a rich collection of Aboriginal music and movies. The articles are about all aspects of Aboriginal culture (health, sport, arts, and many more categories) discussing contemporary and historic topics.
But the site is also used for other creative forms, such as my poetry (categories Love, Tears, Hope, Faith and Stories) and photography, where I publish galleries about my travels.
The main focus of the website is education about Aboriginal culture.
For more history of the site, read my About page:

Aims and objectives
The new logo should address the following:
- aptly express the name "Creative Spirits"
- convey a feeling of quality, trustworthy education
- be generic enough to be used for all my creative endeavours, including Aboriginal culture & resources, but also poetry and photography
- be linked in colour to Australia, ideally use the existing red (#cc3300)
- express that I am passionate for Aboriginal culture in Australia
- express that I am dedicated to education and knowledge sharing
- be usable both online and in print
- be usable for both white and black backgrounds (ie. easy to invert)
- replace the current font (President) with a more modern one
- the logo should just read "Creative Spirits". No byline.
Target audience
From my tracking I know that most visitors are students and teachers in the Australian education system.
I do get some feedback from institutions and organisations as well. These are usually concerned with their Aboriginal cultural training programs.
Deliverables
I would like to get a logo set that is usable on both bright and dark backgrounds.
I need a Photoshop (CS3-compatible) file with the design file so that I can create different sizes myself.
It would be good if you could also include a square graphic that I can use for icons and on Facebook.
The font file, if it is a non-standard font.
