I would suggest you drop the idea of any clouds in a minimalistic design and keep in mind that people on this website work very hard to meet project standards. The brief is the brief. So you're saying that the worlds top cloud solution providers currently using a cloud logo appear naive? The designs I have so far (incorporating the cloud) are by and large, quite brilliant. If you're thinking of a big, all white fluffy cloud, think again. Some of the designs submitted so far are ultra minimalist, and super creative. I come here to see and pay designers to express their real creativity, not cry about it all being too tough. I handpicked some Aussie designers like yourself with view to keeping money in my country, but at this stage that isn't working out too well.
