Book Cover Design Brief

Hello, I need a cover designed for my new book. It's a fictional novel about an older man, about to turn seventy, who loses his wife and starts to consider the fact he might be gay. He is torn between trying to keep living his old life and understanding a new, confusing one.

His old life involved him quietly sitting in a coffee shop and waiting for his wife whilst she went shopping. His new life sees him trying to keep this cherished routine, whilst visiting the grave of his loving late wife. His new life also involves getting drunk and going to gay bars, as he tries to understand his newfound lust.
The book will be published through amazon kindle and ibooks as well as having a paperback option, therefore I need the final cover to be in different quality formats, all detailed below.

My current ideas for the cover:
• Based on the theme of old and new life, one idea I have is the idea of an image of an older man sitting in a coffee shop, sitting quietly and in reflection. There are windows in the distance that show his new life. This could be a scene from a bar or club, obviously with men in it, and the scene stretches across the different windows.
• There could be 2 windows, both showing a scene of a nightclub with men in it. They can be talking or dancing, topless or not, but obvious that it’s a gay bar. Think hanging glitterball, bright colours, men standing close to each other, tight clothes etc.
• It could be that the coffee shop is darker and the scene in the window is brighter. The main character sitting in the coffee shop would be clear that he is an older man around 60-70 and is sitting in reflection, so either looking down at his coffee cup or staring out of the windows. I would like the back cover to continue the same theme, perhaps more windows as the coffee shop stretches out. Or the back cover can be one colour that complements the front.
• It could be drawn or using various images, I’m open to either option.
• Another option could be 2 windows, one with a gay bar scene and one with a graveyard but they would clearly need to be separated as 2 different windows.
• The synopsis below might help a bit more.

SYNOPSIS FOR BACK COVER


Derek had never been to that sort of bar before and never thought he would. Seven decades of quiet living were turned upside down in just one long night. The evening started well, with cocktails he had long forgotten and music he never knew existed. And the men. He didn't know where to start with them.
He didn’t remember much else, other than the darkest screams of a teenage boy and his own battle lost against arms thicker than his thighs.

In the weeks that follow, the attacks increase, and Derek blames himself for not doing enough that night, angry at his decision to enter a life that belongs to a different generation. With no one to turn to, he struggles with the eternal love he still feels for his late wife and the lust he has for a new world he always denied himself.

As the number of victims grows, he befriends a young detective who is trying to capture this serial rapist who targets only gay men. But when those attacks turn to murder and the manhunt reveals no clues, Derek forces himself into a world of skinny jeans and sexual hook ups, determined catch the attacker, to experience new love and lust, and to find his own place under the rainbow.
