Logo Design Brief

We need a logo design for 'Small change', a niche business designing and producing fashion accessories, mainly purses and bags, using beautiful, carefully sourced vintage fabrics. Each piece is produced as a 'one-off', or in small numbers, and is sold in galleries and online. Despite the use of vintage fabric, the bags and purses have been developed with a keen design aesthetic (sometimes, but not inevitably a 'retro' look) and a sense of 21st century lifestyle demands.

We need a logo that incorporates the business name Small change (or small change - depending on the design). The logo will be used on a business card (yet to be developed) and the online site. The typographic element should be readily transferable to printed fabric labels/ tags stitched into purses.

Although the logo represents a business in the fashion sector, we are committed to sustainable and ethical principles in our selection and use of materials and in our relationship with clients; and we produce all pieces locally, in our own studio. For this reason, while the product is beautiful and quirky, we do not want a logo that is excessively luxe on the one hand, or too cute or "girly" on the other.

We are artist/designers, so we would like the logo to reflect our interest in unique design - and avoid a resolution that is too corporate and 'safe'.

Nice to have

• It would be optimal to have a logo that emphasises the handmade nature of the objects - i.e. something that is quirky and idiosyncratic (like the product) and avoids the mechanical and predictable nature of obvious computer generated fonts, effects (highlights etc.) and clip art.
  IF A DESIGNER WHO RESPONDS TO THIS BRIEF IS ABLE TO PRODUCE A FONT AND LOGO THAT HAS THE CHARACTER OF HAND DRAWING, I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO SEE ROUGHS OF THOSE PROPOSALS. (Apologies for the 'shouting' caps, but I am not able to use a bold type, or underline - so caps for emphasis only!)

Should not have

• The logo should avoid drawings of handbags or purses.
  It should also avoid the mechanical and predictable nature of routine computer clip art and effects.
  The logo should not be too corporate or austere.
