Logo Design Brief

INTRODUCTION
The Auckland Women Lawyers’ Association (AWLA) is an incorporated society and registered charity in New Zealand. The AWLA was established in July 1984. It is a representative organisation of women involved in the legal profession including solicitors, barristers, judges, corporate counsel, law students and community representatives. We provide a common meeting ground for the support and advancement of women in the legal profession. We also make suggestions and work for the reform of the law and the administration of the law particularly as it affects women and children generally.

In sum: the AWLA advocates for women.

Our logo has remained unchanged since the AWLA’s establishment in the 80s and we wish for the logo to be better aligned with how the AWLA is, and wants to be, perceived in the New Zealand legal profession today. We have attached our current logo below.

REQUIREMENTS
We wish to update our logo to something that is modern, bold, strong, simple and inclusive.

The predominant colours should be red and white.

We are open to the following design types:
• letter marks;
• pictorial marks;
• any combination of the above.

The logo (whether a letter mark or pictorial mark) should either: (a) clearly identify us, or (b) include an additional option/add-on which clearly identifies us, as the “Auckland Women Lawyers’ Association”.

Our target audience is extremely wide and ranges from persons in their early 20s to very senior members of the profession to government departments and ministries.

The logo will be used on our website, official correspondence and all other marketing and public materials, including a 2m x 1m (6.5ft x 3.2ft) banner and as such we require the quality of the file and/or file size to be large enough to sustain such a print. Also, our website will be re-designed later this year and accordingly we require the file type of the logo to be universally suitable for all website types, or alternatively for various file types to be provided.

We also wish for a letterhead to be designed alongside the logo for use on our official correspondence materials. The letterhead should predominantly feature the logo and the overall feel should be strong, simple and clean. The target audience of our official correspondence are generally government departments and ministries and other professional bodies.

We do not wish for our logo or letterhead to be overly feminine and as such respectfully request that no shade of pink or any cursive lettering are used.

EXAMPLES

• the New Zealand Human Rights Commission;
• the European Women Lawyers Association;
• the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland;
• the Wellington Women Lawyers' Association; and
• Whitireia New Zealand.
