Logo Design Brief

The name of the diner is going to simply be the Queen City Diner (Charlotte is the Queen City http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte,_North_Carolina). Here is our company overview:"Welcome to Downtown Charlotte’s first and only 24 hour diner. The premise and concept is simple. Quick, easy, and low-cost is the mantra. This is a no frills establishment offering customers an alternative to the over abundant, over priced, themed restaurants inside the 277 loop. The atmosphere is clean and bright. Historic pictures of the Queen City decorate the walls. Keeping with progress, this is a non-smoking eatery. The menu includes traditional breakfast items such as bacon and eggs, home fries, omelets, pancakes, and French toast. Turkey clubs, burgers and fries, tuna and chicken salad sandwiches, fried chicken in a basket as well as salads will comprise the lunch and dinner portion of the menu. With the closest competition 5 miles away the market share will be easily secured. Three key segments will be late night diners post bars and clubs closing, morning commuters to high rise office buildings, and an option for downtown residents on Sundays. Outfitted with Wi-Fi, customers can enjoy the convenience of internet access while having a cup of Eight O’Clock coffee. The operational side reflects the same philosophy as the dining experience. Executive chefs, Head Chefs, and Sous Chefs have been eliminated. Line cooks capable of preparing the entire menu replace the typical inefficient kitchen structure. Waitstaff will have guidance by a shift leader. Managerial duties will be split between FOH and BOH positions. Se Habla Espanol. "That is the basic overview. We are going to be heavily tied in with the Charlotte art scene and therefore need a logo that would appeal to that crowd as well as the masses. Perhaps something retro (see retro planet attachment) or somehow incorporating a crown or the Charlotte skyline. Something very important to mention, I really like the idea of Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café in Emeryville, California. Green Day bassist Mike Dernt is one of the main owners. http://www.rudyscantfailcafe.com/ I would love to incorporate some or all of their philosophies into our model:Basic diner food. Breakfast served all day, possibly incorporating "24 HOURS A DAY" into the logo is also a nice plus. (or 24/7)Tattooed servers (with attitude). Sometimes the music is loud (punk rock)—not a place for those looking for a quiet, romantic evening, or for folks who are hard of hearing, but a fun late nite hash house.$1 beers from 9pm-1am everynight. The kids menu has games and can be colored. There are theme tables and a large Barbie doll display. The breakfast menu has a funny face pancakeHere is a local place that I like a lot. They have great themes and good people http://www.commonmarketisgood.com/ http://www.myspace.com/thecommonmarketbandsIt also might be good to mention that we are going to be on the side of downtown that has a lot of local bars and restaurants. Just down the street they recently built a huge three-story entertainment complex called The Epicenter http://www.epicentrenc.com/ As you can see, it is filled with chain bars and restaurants that you can see in Anywhere USA. Our section of town is quickly becoming the “anti-Epicenter” and the Queen City Diner can (with the right branding) become a major player in this movement. I even have ideas of it being a “douche bag free zone.” A task easier said than done in the second largest banking town in North America.

Updates

I uploaded a design that I was working on BEFORE this posting.  Feel free to use as little or as much of this design into your submissions.  This is not at all a requirement, as I want to see a variety of designs.  Good Luck!

I have attached a new picture of the Charlotte skyline. This one is very recent, and features a new building that is the 2nd tallest in the city. Because of its large presence it should definitely be used in any designs where you are incorporating a skyline

.
Thanks

Chris

Requirements
Must have
  • Must have "Queen City Diner"possibly have "24 hours a day" or "24/7" incorporated somehow
Nice to have
  • Possibly incorporate the Queen City Crown logo that I have attached. This is the same crown that is used all over town and synnonymous with the Queen City. If used it would need to be slightly changed so it is different yet still recognizeableAlso, possibly using the Charlotte Skyline into the logo would be interesting, as long as it doesnt detract from the overall theme of the restaurant. Here are a few links showing you the Charlotte skylinehttp://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=51776021http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Charlotte_Pano.jpg

Again, I dont want the skyline to take away from the overall theme, which is (that this is a diner, its open 24/7 and is "the place to be")
