Illustration Design Brief
Dear Fellow Artist,
Graffiti Art is something I am passionate about. I am a big fan of the works by England-based graffiti artist and political activist Banksy. Although I've created a concept of the art myself, through this brief, I am hoping this vision can come to life through the hands of a professional illustrator.
Although the brief would usually be brief and concise, I fell it would be beneficial to provide in more details. Hence, in a nutshell, what is required is actually illustrations of gangster raccoons, inspired by the images attached.
Please bear in mind that this art will be ultimately be converted into stencil format in a large size (composition will be higher than 2 meters tall). Spray-on paint or brush strokes will also be utilised.
BACKGROUND:
I fell in love with the image "Panda with Guns" (Attached). This was attributed to Banksy, however, Banksy did confirm that non-ownership of the artwork. At the time I discovered the image, it coincided with Rio de Janeiro winning the bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games. (I was actually born in Brazil - although I am an Italian based in London)
TRUE STORY:
As a gesture of goodwill to the new hosting city, China (the previous Olympic host nation) offered an incredible gift to Brazil which was a couple of GIANT PANDA BEARS! These giant pandas are a huge deal as they are so loved and of a rare and iconic species literally transforming the fortune of the Zoos in which they have been successfully placed.
It is important to highlight that these giant pandas can only be found in 26 zoos across 18 countries worldwide. To give you a sense of how rare they are - the couple of giant pandas China wanted to present to Brazil would have been the first pandas to step foot in South America and Central America.
TURN OF EVENTS
In response to a fierce opposition campaign in Rio led by an environmental activist regarding accepting Pandas, (to which gathered more than 30,000 signatures in a short period of time), politicians and the Rio Zoo were then forced to reject the gift. My opinion initially was that it was a huge mistake to reject such a valuable gift). However, as it turns out, Rio is a beautiful city with SERIOUS problems of violence and corruption. Unfortunately, the Rio Zoo was no different with a history of misappropriation of funds and truly precarious installations. To say that it was not feasible would be an understatement.
(Additional information for China's use of pandas as leverage in international relationships can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panda_diplomacy)
Bearing the above in mind, my idea is based on the ironic hypothetical question:
WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN OF THE PANDAS IF THEY HAD MOVED TO RIO?
1. Appalled by the precarious living conditions, my observations would be that on hearing stories from other animals, these pandas began to adopt a rebellious behaviour. (as some of these animals were brought in from the wild into captivity some 30 some years ago - a lot had changed in Rio since then). The stories told of a rich paradisiac jungle where animals roamed happy and free just outside the walls of the zoo. So, determined to improve their lives these pandas managed to escape (with the help of a gang of urban raccoons) who lived freely in the vicinity of the zoo, stealing food from kept animals.
2. Unfortunately, once they have managed to escape the walls of the zoo, the reality was disadvantageous as the jungle had become a massively lawless slum - controlled by organized crime, drug dealers and a rival gang of monkeys.
3. The gang of raccoons who freed the pandas from their cage saw in the panda's size and strength, the opportunity to engage in ever bigger crimes. So, instead of living that dream life, they soon learned how to fend for themselves, ultimately becoming members of the raccoon gang. The gang quickly became the strongest gang in the shanty town.
TASK - WHAT IS REQUIRED:
1. The most important character of the composition will be an adaptation of the attached (see image titled "Raccoon on a Swing with Machine Gun". I would need an image of a raccoon as opposed to that of a human whilst adopting the same theme.
2. Three or four "gangster raccoons" to complete this gang.
a. One should be a "Rambo" raccoon holding a Belt Fed Machine Gun. (See Belt Fed Machine Gun image, for guidance, attached)
b. Another could be sporting a "nunchucks" (See image referenced titled "Tchaco" which means nunchucks in Brazilian Portuguese.
c. Another raccoon could be holding two crossed guns. (See image titled "Crossed Guns" for reference).
d. I've also attached images of "Brazilian Gangsters" for reference on the mood and stance.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. The designs should be in-line with that of the "Panda with Guns".
The "Brazilian gangsters" inspired raccoons will not need to be as clean cut as the panda since this is not in their nature. As you can see, they adopt the images of thieves with their iconic "masks".
2. As guidance, if I was to put the racoons and the panda in them in the same composition, it should work harmoniously.
3. Please note that since the background of the graffiti will be my artwork or that of others, a background design will therefore not be necessary. (An example of how the stencil art will interact with the background has been attached using images of the panda to illustrate. (See "Panda with a sample background effect" for illustrative purposes only)
I hope this makes sense.
Many thanks,
Juliano

Requirements
Must have
- This is to be done in greyscale. At least three or four gangster raccoons should be featured in the design, including the "Raccoon on a Swing with Machine Gun". Please have the ropes holding the swing/seat bleeding out of the composition.
- The other racoons should be placed relatively lower on the bottom of the page. Refer to the IMPORTANT NOTES in the project description.
Nice to have
- Each gangster raccoon to have a different personality.
- E.g. The Rambo Raccoon.
- The "Nunchucks" Raccoon.
- The "Psychopath" Raccoon with crossed guns.
Should not have
- Elements that wouldn't convert well into the stencil.
