Web Design Brief

Hi I am looking to revamp my Middle Eastern/Cooking/Nutrition Blog for something that is clean, sophisticated yet sultry. My site now www.tastesofthemideast.com is messy and needs more color help with background. Please send anything you think is suitable for the concept.

  • Your work looks wonderful!
I am looking forward to your designs! I am really trying to revamp my current site www.tastesofthemideast.com to be more clean and sophisticated.
I like this color palette or maybe royal purple and gold. http://www.colourlovers.com/palette/656783/The_Middle_East

I had my website evaluated by a brand specialist and this what she said I should be doing :) Let me know what you think- really appreciate it!

    Comments Below:
Given your brand identity, I think you want to go for something clean and simple but with touches of bold color and iconography. You want the site to come off as approachable, but to also have an exotic and slightly mysterious edge. Perhaps choose a solid background color and use stylish icons, flourishes and images to bring the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean flavor.
I also recommend that you use a neutral color or a whitewashed design as your background. It is easier on the eyes to read a lot of text when it’s a neutral (light or white) background color with a darker font.
Here is a color palette that I like for you: http://www.colourlovers.com/palette/656783/The_Middle_East
In terms of organization, I think it would be great to have your home page be a jump page. So, rather than having a list of your recent posts, perhaps you can welcome guests with a picture of yourself/your food/your brand.
Then, you could have a menu of options for people to explore your site (kind of like the bar you have at the top of your page now). But instead of just having the text, you could use images as the links to the different pages. This would include a link to classes, recipes, nutritional information, products, TV shows/videos, bio, etc. And you could organize it in a creative way on the page.
There are so many ways that you can organize your site, and it’s completely up to you! But here are some examples that I think you could look to for inspiration:
    http://giadadelaurentiis.com/
    http://www.barefootcontessa.com/
    http://www.catcora.com/
    http://www.getchickpea.com/getchickpea.com/Chickpea.html
    http://www.nayaexpress.com/
    http://www.taimfalafel.com/

For your brand name, ultimately, you want something that reflects the down to earth yet somewhat exotic nature of your brand. The actual brand name is up to you…but I do like where you’re going with the ingredients.

    Back to my comments ?
I want simple and sophisticated yet also portrays the mysterious and exotic Middle East. The site colors and pictures should transport people but also want it clean. I think my site is too busy now.
The content and layout could be the same but the logo, domain name possible and website name, background and color scheme all have to change although I do like dark purple and gold as possibilities along with the color pattern I sent already,

Im not sure if its a single page or full project but I do want a total revamp of the scheme- do you need to redo the website or just remake the existing because I can provide the website info if thats the case . I can pay the up front cost now. I believe the quote is 300.

Also im not sure if I should stick with the Olive it name or here are other name options if you think they meet the sophisticated brand of the Middle East more.

    tahini & honey
    fig & chickpea
    saffron & rosewater- very exotic
    harissa & honey
    pomegranates & pistachios
    saffron & pomegranates
    figs & saffron

The name should be playful and fun for the site. I like the idea of ingredients because it brings both the Mediterranean and Middle East imagery and allows for broad appeal.

Thank you soooooooooo much- I know it’s a lot to think about and I greatly appreciate your insight and talents in this!!
