Logo Design Brief

We need a logo design for our Fly Healthy research study.
This is a collaboration between Georgia Tech and Emory's
School of Public Health. The goal of the study is to find ways to reduce the transmission of infectious diseases in an airplane cabin. Below is additional info about our study.

The logo needs to be positive and reassuring.

The logo can, but does not have to, contain the GT and Emory
School of Public Health.

Fly Healthy study update
Professor Weiss is currently the PI of the $1.5 million Boeing-sponsored "Fly Healthy" research study, which is a collaboration between Georgia Tech and The Rollin’s School of Public Health at Emory University. Delta Airlines is facilitating several aspects of this project.

The goal is to understand the rates and routes of transmission of infectious diseases in an airplane cabin during flight and to find strategies to mitigate transmission. Major research components are (1) chronicling the movement and interactions of passengers and crew, (2) characterizing the microbial communities throughout the cabin (cabin microbiome), and (3) studying the role of these microbes in the transmission of human disease.

The team recently completed their tenth and final research flight. Over the summer, the statisticians are cleaning the movement data and creating the dynamic network of close interactions. The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is analyzing the environmental samples.

To record movement, ten graduate students from the Rollin’s School of Public Health recorded all movements of passengers and crew in their zones on a specially designed iPad App while the aircraft was above 10,000 feet. Another researcher operated two air-sampling pumps that sampled the cabin air during five stages of flight. Other researchers took surface swabs of lavatory door handles, tray tables, and seat belt handles before boarding and after deplaning.

Based on the measured levels of the pathogens, their estimated infectivity, and the observed contact patterns, Weiss and his team will construct mathematical models to estimate how infectious diseases may spread in the cabin during flight. This research will expand our fundamental knowledge of pathogen prevalence, transmission opportunities, and transmission frequencies in an aircraft cabin.
