Logo Design Brief

I need a small restyling of the corporate image for an high quality artistic carpenter. I would say "slight restyling" because the carpenter doesn't want a radical change: he just wants to review his logo (therefore other materials like the headed paper, the cards, ecc.) to realize a more modern design. He wants to communicate that he works looking ahead but capitalizing an old family tradition.
