Logo Design Brief
THE PRODUCT:
UBU is a brand new 24/7 Chinese/English interpreting service for the inbound and outbound China visitor.
How many times of you heard friends tell horrible tales of food poisoning, ski injuries, stolen passports, lost luggage and wayward taxi drivers when away overseas . Maybe something horrible has even happened to you?
If it has, you’ll know that when you’re injured, sick, lost, tired or scared, the last thing you want to do is flick through a phrasebook, look up a word in the dictionary or hope to heck that you’ve got wifi so you can access one of those fancy schmancy apps. What you want is an interpreter by your side.
We can’t offer that, but we can provide the next best thing! Your own personal interpreter on the phone. So, whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, or you’re an expat in need of some help in a hurry, UBU is there to ensure you can always Understand and Be Understood.
THE BRIEF:
We're looking for a design that works for both a Chinese and western audience. In fact, we need the following Simplified Chinese characters to form part of the logo: 优必优(Literally, to have, must be excellent).
If you have a look at the top brands in China, you'll see how they incorporate both latin and simplified Chinese text :

Colours: we want to see Blue, red , white or a combination of all three. By blue, we're talking Facebook blue.
Form: UBU is based on a pass-the-phone methodology between customer, interpreter and third party, so we could communicate the idea of a conversation being had either between two or three people. Ideally, that idea would be embedded in the UBU letters as opposed to sitting outside it, like a thought bubble etc. But don't be limited by the idea of a conversation either; we want to see all sorts of designs. The fact that this is a communication product lends itself easily to the idea of a conversation, but feel free to experiment.
Design: We're looking for something modern, slick, clean and easy to read. Remember, with both Chinese and Latin text, we don't want the design to look too busy. The Chinese characters can either sit underneath the Latin or to right hand side.
Message: we want to communicate this idea of feeling at home when you're away from home. There's someone here who speaks your language. In Chinese it's the idea of "guanxi" or connections. With UBU, travel is less stressful, so we want to make sure you're fully packed.
