Logo Design Brief

The Daintree Rainforest observatory is a research station owned by James Cook University. We are rebranding the station and require a new logo. It must work with the existing JCU brand, yet have its own identity. We would prefer a maximum of 3 colours, and potentially no colour fading, with the ability for the logo to work in black and white when photocopied, and on various different coloured backgrounds for merchanding purposes.

The canopy crane (the only one in the southern hemisphere), ospreys (which nest on the end of the crane jib) and the wet tropics rainforest (unique to the Daintree area) are three distinct icons for the station, although not all have to be included in the logo. Other wildlife unique to the area and encountered at the research station include striped possums, cassowaries (best avoided due to over use in other regional logos), tree kangaroos, Australia's largest dragonfly (the petal tail dragonfly), and numerous frog, snake and insect species. Endemic flora include fan palms, quandongs and bowenia.
