Graphic Design Brief

We are a group of residents that want to create an alternative logo for the City of Wellington, New Zealand. Recently our City Council came up with a logo that, when surveyed, eighty percent of residents didn't like.

We've taken it on ourselves to come up with an alternative because our City Council does not want to back down on the design.

We want the best logos that sum up the city. Every logo will be voted on by the public with the final ten highest scorers being voted on by our panel of three local judges.

The final logo will be submitted to the City. They can choose not to adopt it. We already have a lot of local businesses who are prepared to take on an alternative logo regardless.

The documents attached will give you information about us, for those of you who don't know. Read, digest, create.

For more information see our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/whoarewewellington

PS Top tip. Start with the document "wellington city information" first. File 17.

Updates

Hi team,

Thanks for getting the ball rolling with your designs submitted so far. They are also being cross-posted at https://www.facebook.com/whoarewewellington for public comment, though the final judging will be done via the voting on this site.

PS Don't take strong comments to heart, plenty are willing to criticise but not many are willing to contribute.

Hi everyone,

With a few hours until closing I just wanted to say thank you all for your entries and best luck for the next stage.

A few things

I plan on leaving the competition open for a week for voting. The winner will take a "Peoples Choice" prize and the money.

All of your entries are going to another judging panel made up of brand specialists who will make their decision based on their expertise. There is no prize for this.

The winning People's Choice and Brand Specialist Choice will be sent to the Wellington City Council along with a letter asking them to choose one.

For those of you that submitted multiple designs, in multiple formats, can you please delete the multiple formats and just leave the designs that you think are your best. I.e. Some of you have the same design on a cup, t-shirt, business card, and so on. Choose one, otherwise I will have too!

Thanks again, the voting will start in the next twenty four hours and you can follow it here as well as https://www.facebook.com/whoarewewellington

Thank you all for your hard work, as you can see, the final design has been chosen by vote.

Have a great Xmas and I look forward to putting up more projects in the New Year.

Cheers

Target Market(s)

The target market are the residents of Wellington City and her businesses. The logo, hopefully, should the City back down on their awful version, will be adopted as the official logo. If not, we will be encouraging our community to adopt the logo that you come up with as an alternative.

Requirements
Must have
  • The logo must encapsulate who and what Wellington is. Our harbour, steep hills, proximity to Cook Strait, our green future, heritage, wind, and what makes the city what it is. The only must have is that it is a single logo. Though you are welcome to submit more than one. The attached word document will give you information and links to websites that will help you out. Just a note on the images, I've sourced them straight from the web and they are likely to have some copyrights attached, I wanted to give some visuals of the city.
