I'm a digital painter and can submit a portfolio of my work, but there's absolutely now way I'd spend a dozen hours painting this very specific book cover without knowing if I'm gonna get paid or not. It seems as though you need to pay for a digital painter or something.

HI, just a few questions on your brief that I'm sure most designers would like to know:

1: Is this cover for an ebook or for print?
If it is for print, perhaps you could give an indication of the size/dimensions of the cover, and perhaps the approx. number of pages.

2: It is difficult to understand from your brief what type of book cover you want in terms of genre.
Is this a children's book? or Adult, teenager etc.
Is this a thriller, romantic novel, adventure etc

3: How old is the girl?

Regarding the original (comprehensive) brief.

I spent many hours researching photographs for the 'small red bluff, the grassy slopes of the hills, the larger oak tree, the small spring, the stream from the hill, the 3-5ft wide shallow creek with a sandy bottom, the girl (a composite of 3 photos) dress, flowers on the dress, hair, etc etc, plus the time it took to composite the whole collection together into what I believe was an excellent interpretation of your brief.
Also, If I hadn't asked you questions we wouldn't have known if this was for an ebook or print, how old the girl was, or the genre or target market.

You have now updated your brief, and neglected to mention any of the original brief specifications, except ' girl with long dark hair, preferably in a long dress, it needs the large oak tree in it somewhere in background' and you have now included a colour scheme.

Does this mean, from the point of the designers, that all the work that has been done has to be thrown out and restarted?
Why has it taken so long to change the brief and why so late in the competition?
I am sure many designers would have spent a lot of time trying to accommodate your original brief only to find it has been a waste of their time and energy.
At the time of writing you have 40 designs - Hope you find what you're looking for.
