Icon Design Brief

Please create an icon that inspired people to divest their plates based on the included image. (This is like divesting your stock portfolio from fossil fuel stocks.) This image will initially be on buttons, tee shirts, and the web.

My draft image references the MyPlate.gov image, but is too close to their version and doesn't have your professional flare. It should still recognizably reference that design but with a more organic, environmentally friendly feel. See https://www.choosemyplate.gov/myplate-graphic-resources

Target Market(s)

The message is for environmentalists and politically engaged adults.

Requirements
Must have
  • The essential elements are the primary message Divest Your Plate, plus a round white plate with four sections, one each for Local, Organic, Plants, and Fair Labor. A blue circle to the upper right says Less Waste. A fork is to the left. CookforGood.com should be visible but not dominate.
  • The design must be readable at a glance and crisp and legible when quite small.
  • Not shown in my draft but also essential, there should be a way to indicate which of the categories are met by someone displaying this image. [UPDATE: I've added a second image that shows the indicators. The heart comes from the Birds, Bees, Flowers, and Trees Decorative font which I already have a license for.] For example, there might be a hear, star, or check mark in an area that is met. The idea is to help someone find a restaurant that uses, for example, fair labor practices and that has local, plant-based food. Or someone else find a store that has organic food and reduces waste. Your design should show two versions of the logo: one with no indicators and one with all the indicators. [UPDATE: if you can only show one version of the design, please show the one with the indicators.] (I will mix and match as needed using layers, as described below.)
  • The colors and style must be compatible with the Cook for Good logo and an upcoming new website design, but they don't have to match. The colors are logo green 006636, logo blue 003699, and orange accent ff6600. See http://www.cookforgood.com.
  • For the deliverable package, the format must be a layered Photoshop .psd file with two versions of the logo, one with no indicators and one with all the indicators. (Having layers for the indicators and the fonts will allow me to adjust the indicators and to resize the image with without losing sharpness in the text. The other graphic components can all be i one layer.) A single image should be should be at least 5400 pixels across (18 inches at 300dpi).
Nice to have
  • UPDATE: I like that the original has different colors for the five sections and that it's very easy to read, even when small. I wish it had a softer, more organic feel. Check out the LOVE icon I did here, with a mix of brush stroke and bold font. I don't have the skill do to the mix of softness and readability that I want for this, but hope you do! http://cookforgood.com/blog/2017/3/17/the-power-of-cooking-with-love.html NEW UPDATE: UPDATE: Please consider showing the plate and glass outlines more like they were done with a brush. They can still be white on a colored background. See the circle on this page: http://www.psychedelicadventure.net/2009/09/thich-nhat-hanh-peace-is-every-step.html (but of course don't copy it directly). Scroll down. This may help it look more organic and less government. Thank you.
Should not have
  • No knives or spoons. No fish, meat, eggs, cheese, milk, bees, or other animal products. I run a vegan site.
