Logo Design Brief

Need a refreshed, modern logo for a well-respected law firm that's been in business for 35 years. The current logo is attached for reference. We've attached a scan with some other logos we like as a reference (we like the ones that are circled/arrows pointing to them). It would also be nice to have a mark alongside the logo or some other simple graphic element that we can use in stationary, web app icons etc. As for color, we'd like to stick with the current firm color palette of black, gold, and green.
