Logo Design Brief

My client needs a modern and possibly even edgy-style logo for re-branding of a dynamic home improvement biz based in Virginia USA. We've done the stock hammers on Vista Print. If we can stay away from hammers, that would be great. Perhaps we could try other symbols of carpentry and home or commercial renovation. He is also an expert at DOORS. Would love to see a design with door elements. PREVIOUS LOGO INCLUDED AS JPG. We LOVE board, bard boards, etc. He has both a residential & commercial license for renovations which is very rare.

Our Master Carpenter works on pre-sale rehabs, kitchens and baths, doors, custom trim, renovations. Been in biz since 1983. Partial to barn board backgrounds, love grays, blacks but open to most color combos, except blue or orange (Lowe's/Home Depot), no purple. We want something that says honesty, integrity and speaks to his perfectionist nature. The owner has a heart for Jesus and football and the good ole USA. The final design should communicate quality, punctuality, on budget and completely satisfied customer.

Note: the owner IS the brand and symbol of the business. That's why we'd love to see 2 options, especially one with his face sketched into the design.

• font that are easy to read like on a sign on a construction trust
• font that is under used would be nice.

Nice to have

• outside-the box thinking, even edgy
• one idea we have is a sketch of his face included in the logo. We'd like the sketch to include him possibly wearing his sunglasses.
• mike has a large goatee (not a heavy beard) and glasses. Harley guy but don't want orange. uploading screen shots. Please stay artistic in the sketch and his fear is that will look like Bozo the Clown. Stay away from Bozo.
• flex on font choice

Should not have

• We HATE the expected from this industry.
• purple, blue or orange, expected symbols or graphics
• marketing rep partial to mono chromic or even gray scale
• PLEASE provide a choice WITHOUT hammers.
