Logo Design Brief

I would like to improve the logo I have created for a school library website. (Please see attached file). Key components: child friendly, search and discovery, electronic and print resources. The library website logo should reflect the library goals: discovery, collaboration, and creativity. It should challenge library users to think beyond stereotypical views of libraries as warehouses for print materials. Internet resources and modern communication and information technologies should be highlighted. I intend to create library websites for several schools. I will use this logo for all of them.
In my design, I like the use of the word "Library" in Google's colors to indicate the modern search and discovery aspects of the library website. I like the little girl with the magnifying glass and the book, but her glasses are distracting. Also, the child could be a bit older. I like the laptop with bookshelves, but I don't want it surrounded by a blue background. (It could alternatively be a mobile phone.) This indicates that the library resources can be accessed online from anywhere.
I would like a colorful design.
