Book Cover Design Brief
Hi all,
I've self-published an urban fantasy novel called Overture, the first in a four-part series of the same name. The book deals with heroine Elma and her voyage from mild-mannered pianist to supernatural powerhouse. I need a rocking cover that reflects the flavor of the book--paranormal urban fantasy with thriller elements, a classic romance and a definitively humorous, snarky tone all through the book. Feel free to visit the book's Goodreads page for more details, including the overview: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22550934-overture
I'm uploading Overture Book 1 along with this brief, and ask that you please read it prior to submitting a proposed design, as i want the artwork to stay very true to the content. And heck, it's a free read! Note: there are some areas of adult content in the draft.
Thanks!
Issa

Requirements
Must have
- Originality. An artistic and bespoke approach. Sky's the limit--I'd love to see original artwork, rich color and depth rather than reliance on stock photography. The novel contains historical and cultural elements, and I'd love to see a cultural sentiment in the look. THere is also a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humor in the novel, and the cover should be relevant to that.
Nice to have
- This is an opportunity to be included in the three novels to come as well, since I'd want all covers to tie together. Color is key. Make it pop off the paper. Happy to provide the draft-in-progress of Book 2 if that helps.
Should not have
- As said above, so swarthy sailors in ripping shirts, and no busty, swooning blondes. No gore or overt fear factor. Cover must closely reflect the content and feel of the novel.
