Logo Design Brief

I need a logo design for a new bicycle race I'm hosting called the Middle Georgia Epic. The race is on public roads, approximately half of which are not paved. It is the longest multi-surface race in the state, offering both a 200k & 100k distance options (124 miles & 62 miles). The race is tough and requires riders to be fairly self sufficient, there is only one aid stop along each route. The logo needs to be a single color design to keep t-shirt printing costs to a minimum, and needs to convey that the event is tough and for serious riders.
