Logo Design Brief
Our family's retail store has been in business since 1902 in Butte and we are just beginning to ramp up our online presence. I have attached the last logo that I'm guessing was designed in the early 1990s.
Maybe the design is a fresh new twist on the old logo? Or maybe we go with something more modern.
We sell primarily mens and womens clothing and accessories, wedding and formal wear, as well as industrial wear (ie, Carharrt, etc). I would like to emphasize the age and show that we are well seasoned/cultivated/experienced. Perhaps the theme is that we are an old store but we have adapted with the times while keeping our core values.
"Thomas Apparel" is the name. Started in Butte, Montana in 1902. Butte has some interesting culture and iconic examples throughout the city: the numerous "gallus frames", the "Big M", the huge mountains, the Lady of the Rockies, are all potentially themes that could be worked in as well--although I absolutely do not have to have them in there.
Since we do sell a somewhat variety of products, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to have too specific of imagery (wedding dresses, mens suits, etc) so avoid that unless there is a killer idea or broader theme.
Established (or Est.) 1902 should definitely be on there somewhere. Dark Teal and Dark Red/Burgundy are the store colors with Green a bit more dominant traditionally.
Would like to have an element of a Saks 5th or a Nordstroms...to an extent. Let's stay original. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your help!

Target Market(s)
Traditionally we have been "family apparel" but I would say women and men (slightly more so women) 27 to 45 that are relatively "well-to-do" and value good quality and trustworthiness

Must have
- For our Ecommerce brand so should be durable. I envision using it on our website, stationary, etc. Should be Dark Red/Burgundy and Dark Teal coloring, have Thomas Apparel, Established 1902 (Est. would work too). It should show that we are an old, established, wizened family store.
Nice to have
- It would be nice to have a separate "mini-logo" to complement the main logo. Maybe that's a fancy looking "T" letter that fits the main theme? An allusion or reference to Butte, Montana and its history could potentially be nice, but not necessary. Feel free to be creative
Should not have
- Too specific of imagery--for example, wedding themes or business suits themes might make people think that we don't carry other items. So it should be somewhat of a broad theme since we do sell a variety of products.
