Logo Design Brief
To design a new logo for our company and form the basis of our main branding image from 2017 on wards. We are a small non for profit organisation based in Brunswick, Melbourne. We present theatre and education workshops to secondary and tertiary education throughout the state.
The style/theme
As an arts organisation we want you to be as free as possible in your design, so we don’t want to be specific about the overall effect.
In terms of where to base a theme this is best gained from our home base called ‘the nest’. A giant warehouse crammed from floor to ceiling with objects, sets and props that resemble an overstocked junk shop you might find in Alice and Wonderland -complete with 10-foot statue of Jesus hanging from the ceiling. Carved into this chaos is a rabbit warren of rooms connecting the various rehearsal spaces, offices and studios within the company. Held together through home-made construction of left over wood, pipes and scenery pieces. Weaved through this are corners of interiors in various themes ranging from Parisian gothic, Victorian England, last year’s rave party and futuristic lighting. Think bohemia in Melbourne – and you’ve got it!
A bit about us
ENT was founded in 2006 by prolific theatre-maker James Adler. From its home in Brunswick it has quickly developed an enviable reputation by delivering high quality performances in both high schools and theatres. Our pursuit of excellence has seen ENT tour work to New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Sarajevo, Shanghai, Auckland, Wellington, Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Eagle’s Nest has also been home to international guests from France and Germany. The 2015 season features more texts, a more diverse group of artists and prices almost too cheap to believe.

Requirements
Must have
- Incorporate an image/symbol (either real or abstract) and the logo. We would need a colour version and black/white/grayscale version for both print and web.
- Include the full name. Am happy for the word “company” to be replaced by the abbreviation “Co.” if this suits the design concept better.
- Should include an image either real world or abstract. This could relate to the name of the company, the product (theatre) or independent style.
- We are a contemporary theatre presenting serious texts from classical and modern theatre. Our image is artistic, home spun, industrial, gritty, messy. Think sophisticated artistic, simplistic European theatre with a bit of Aussie back-yard DIY. We are not looking for the traditional theatre curtains, top hats, theatre lights – type of logo.
Nice to have
- Would be great to have 2 options: one composite of logo & image, and also to have the logo and picture as separate files.
Should not have
- Any images/themes that present corny traditional stock theatre. In other words, sparkly top hats, velvet curtains, and stage lights are not we’re going for. Think modern, sophisticated, artistic, rustic, industrial. European theatre is your best example.
