Logo Design Brief

Manifest Sign is seeking a logo that exemplifies the simplification of Amazon and FedEx style logos and the hidden message that these simple logos exploit. Manifest is seeking a logo that can extract and exploit the "hidden message" in Manifest. We are a sign making company. We are based in Seattle, so the presence of Seahawks for football, Amazon, Starbucks, REI, and Microsoft corporate headquarters all live here and will be our customers. I really like the professionalism of http://www.ferraricolor.com/ , which is a high-end, professional sign making company. I love their font style but I can't see the message in their text.

When our website is complete it will be found as:
www.manifestsign.com

Our customer base is targeted for corporate professionals and should reflect those ideals. It is not meant to be silly, whimsical, or trendy. It is meant for long-term, professional business acumen, almost boring to some extent but when studied brings out hidden meaning, a serendipitous response and/or clearly portrays our message that can be remembered. I like the FedEX and Amazon logos that imply movement, full coverage of products, and joy.

Logo Text: Manifest should be the emphasis in the logo: the primary element. Maybe this is a larger font. Font style for Manifest does not have to be the same as "sign and graphics". Font type (italics, bold) can vary. The usage of "sign and graphics" is a secondary and serves as an appendage to Manifest. The "M" in Manifest does not necessarily need to be in upper case, nor do the "s" and "g" in sign and graphics. File format should be structured to accommodate the use of: Manifest, Manifest sign and graphics, or sign and graphics. We need to have these as file elements to meet our needs.

Logo Color palette: The core color palette is based on the Seattle Seahawks colors. I believe that three colors are sufficient and possibly two might work better. In any case, the addition or removal of a color may be acceptable. Whatever combination is used should be able to stand on a white background for stationery. For a business card, the background might be one of the base colors, or it can be white. Our website will have a white background. The main color should be blue. The highlight/emphasis color should be ACTION GREEN, but not so much green that any form of emphasis is lost. You can adjust the colors if needed, but a simplistic color palette selection is desired. I worry that on a white background, green may never stand out. This needs to be factored into your presentation.

COLLEGE NAVY HEX COLOR: #002244; RGB: (0,21,50)
ACTION GREEN HEX COLOR: #69BE28; RGB: (105,190,40)
WOLF GRAY HEX COLOR: #A5ACAF; RGB: (155,161,162)

Line Movement and Style: We like the bold but subtle moves of the Seahawks logo, but this is where art and style have to show on their own. Whatever the "movement" portrayed in the logo, it should be deliberate and not an afterthought. Bold does not mean that lines and letters need to be "thick". The ferraricolor example uses thin lines to emphasize and embolden their look. Do all lines need to be thick? I don't know; what will you present?

Logo Sizing requirements: Logo simplicity allows scaling of the result that can be easily recognized: big or small. Excessive logo detail complicates the logo, consumes too much area, and does not scale well when small. Simple. Clean. Concise.

Logo Ratios: I am more inclined to a rectangular ratio when it comes to width and height, but I don't believe the ratio should be excessive. FedEx really does have the best ratio in my book, owing to the few letters needed. I believe this works better on a website. In any case, the easier the logo can accommodate x-y ratio variation, the better.

Manifest Slogan: We are working with two slogans, both of which modify the use of the verb "to sign" to the noun function. For example, a Manifest slogan of "Just sign it", where the action is NOT in the verb "signing of something" but in the noun "sign". "just sign it" is interpreted as "to build a sign". Slight emphasis on the usage of "sign", textual or otherwise, is welcome. Another slogan variation is "sign on", or using this phrase in the context of the noun form of sign, representing a sign and NOT the verb form to "sign", or provide a signature. I emphasis all lower-case letters for the slogan; the textual fonts for sign may vary including the possible use of italics or font variation.

Combining Logo and Slogan: File format should be structured to accommodate the use of the slogan statement file element that can be included or excluded from the description found above in Logo Text.

Icon, Letter Head: The logo must transition well to letterhead and some simplified variation will need to land on an icon for web page tabs, etc. Please keep this in mind as the logo is designed so that the pieces can be conveyed in other formats.

Fonts: You are welcome to explore and develop fonts if needed.
