Book Outline:
Mitchell ‘Muffin’ Topcross and Donald ‘Doughnut’ Doughty are two characters created in the mind of my youngest son, Max, over one Christmas holiday.
Their first adventure was a stinky one; it involved rotten eggs.
This, their second adventure, is a direct result of the first, an all expenses-paid holiday for Mitchell and Donald and their families. They decided on Singapore, and land at the start of Chinese New Year.
As if laid on for them, they land in the middle of a family situation – the disappearance of the grandfather of Jade Wan. Jade is the daughter of an old school friend of Mitchell’s mother who lives in Singapore.
Unperturbed by jetlag, a new environment, and some rather cryptic clues that look like messages out of a fortune cookie, Mitchell, Donald and Clare team up with Jade to try and solve the mystery. The teenagers race across Singapore, exploring well-known and less well-known parts of the island, in the search for Jade’s grandfather; and they soon discover that it is all linked to something called the Green Lotus.
The action involves the teenagers tracking down the baddies, following clues that look like fortune cookie messages, a dash around Singapore during the night and day to some well-known and some less well-known spots, a taste of local life, a view of cultural differences, and of course, a tiny YiXing Clay teapot.
(Locations used: China Town, Changi Airport, The Fullerton Hotel, Boat Quay, River Cruise, The Merlion, CBD, The Singapore Flyer, Furniture warehouse in Cantonment, old Tanjong Pagar Railway station, Woodlands Station, MRT, River Hong Bao, The Durian, Collyer Quay, CBD at night, The Buddah’s Tooth Relic Temple in China Town, Shophouses in China Town, Pasir Panjang Wet Market, Labrador Park, The Hillview Mansion at Jalan Dermawan, Bukit Gombak/Little Guilin, Bukit Batok Nature Park and the War Memorial at the top of Jalan Lorong Sesuai, a bus ride, Fong Seng Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata at Clementi Avenue 2, The Colonial House at 11 Keppel Hill Road, a Monitor Lizard, East Coast Seafood Centre, The Eastern Anchorage.)
The cover needs to be bright, catchy and appealing to 10-13yr olds. It should feature the tiny YiXing teapot, something of Singapore, and maybe the kids in silhouette. The style of the story is reminiscent of a young Sherlock (one of the boys is knick-named Sherlock), the Adventures of Tin Tin and the Famous Five.

Updates
Hi, I omitted the title of the book: The Green Lotus (Mitchell Muffin and the Green Lotus)Muffin because Mitchell's hair flops over his face like the top of a muffin. Also, I'm an indie author and tutor so this is my first go at posting a design up - normally, I have handled the work myself.Best wishes,Sarah Added Tuesday, June 14, 2016
Project Deadline Extended Reason: I am increasing the budget and allowing more time for designers to find images that correspond with Singapore, Chinese New Year in Singapore and understand about YiXing Clay. Added Friday, June 17, 2016

Must have
- The cover needs to be bright, catchy and appealing to 10-13yr olds. It should feature the tiny YiXing teapot, something of Singapore, and maybe the kids in silhouette. The style of the story is reminiscent of a young Sherlock (one of the boys is knick-named Sherlock), the Adventures of Tin Tin and the Famous Five.
- INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEAPOT.
- YiXing Clay is a very rare and porous clay that is only found in one part of China. The teapots are typically not high-glazed. They are small (can fit in the palm of your hand). They are often round or fat looking.

- I have attached a copy of a couple of typical teapots. The one I have drawn is like the one with the lizard on top, only with a lotus flower.
- PLEASE NOTE: the teapot in the story is not green, although it is called the green lotus. It is called the green lotus as a green lotus grew in the clay that was used to make the teapot. (many apologies as I should have mentioned this prior).
- The action takes place during Chinese New Year, in Singapore. This takes place around February. Typically there are lights, lanterns, food, nick-nacks, gods, red packets and fireworks.
- The teenagers are Mitchell, his friend Donald and his cousin Clare, Jade (from Singapore), they are all around 14 years old. (Mitchell's younger sister is with them, however is not a main character. She is 10 years old.)
Nice to have

- NB I've attached a file of some of the character sketches I used for the first book - not all of these characters are in the second novel (I can provide these as separate images. I have also attached the cover of the first novel that I am not entirely happy with, but it gives you an idea, I hope.
