Web Design Brief

I'm looking to create a new and better website for my growing fashion-doll brand, PIDGIN.

About me: I'm a Brooklyn-based artist, illustrator, and doll-maker and PIDGIN is the name of my doll. Pidgin is a character doll (one girl) but she's not necessarily defined by any particular physical trait outside of the sculpt of the doll and her unique sense of style. For example, she could have pink hair and freckles or dark skin and green eyes, but she would still be "Pidgin."

My partner and I created the current website ourselves using Adobe Muse. While it has served its purpose, we are not professional graphic or web designers, so I'm looking to graduate to a much more sophisticated and streamlined web design. I want the site to feel sweet and homespun but also hip and edgy. Because the site is so image heavy, I think black and white or black and off-white might be the best color palate, but I'm open to seeing other palates. Pidgin's signature color is a muted lavender so maybe that could be integrated into the design. Here is the link:

I want the website to feel more like a shop and less like a gallery/info page. I'm now selling one-of-a-kind porcelain dolls, limited-edition resin dolls, face-plate necklaces, paper dolls, custom doll services, and printed Pidgin throw pillows. I also need an interface that will allow me to create new categories, update inventory, and post new items easily.

I need to add new sections for press/articles, multiple image galleries (photography, products, illustrations, comics, and fan art), **collaboration projects, and several flash based doll "dress-up" games.

I would prefer a design that I can code/update myself using Adobe Muse. PSD files import into Muse, so I would prefer that you use them. I'm certainly not opposed to other designs, but I would prefer a design I can manage myself.

I'm including some photos and drawings of Pidgin that express her look and vibe. I don't want to use these images in the web design necessarily (I think simple is best) but I thought they would be helpful in expressing the kind of girl she is and how I want the site to feel. I want to work with someone who has a clean, refined, yet whimsical aesthetic who can help me create a website that really expresses how special Pidgin is.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: I have had a family emergency come up and I can't devote time to this right now so I'm extending the deadline another 10 days.

Requirements
Must have
  • I need the following main categories: Info, Sales, Galleries, Press, and Dress-up. However, I don't necessarily want or expect the layout to be organized like the current website.

    INFO:

    *About Pidgin (the character)

*Doll specifications: 27" porcelain doll, 22" porcelain doll, 22" resin doll, life-size doll (for window display)

    *About the artist

    SALES:

    *Porcelain dolls

    *Resin dolls

    *Face-plate necklaces

    *Pillows

*Custom doll/necklace info and inquiry form

    GALLERIES:

    *Photographs

    *Collaboration projects

    *Illustrations/Comics

    *Fan Art/Contests

    PRESS:

*An inventory of pdf's of articles about Pidgin for users to download or view inside a reader online.

    DRESS UP:

*Links to two interactive flash based dress-up games (interactive paper dolls)

Nice to have
  • I hold online drawing and design contests from time to time so I would love to have a spot on the site reserved to host the rules and results of my contests.

Pidgin has a large facebook and Instagram following so links to her social media would also be great.
    instagram: @pidgindoll
    facebook: facebook.com/pidgindoll

Should not have
  • I'm not looking to see anything too girly, too young, or too sexy.
Pidgin is not Barbie, American Girl, or Bratz. She's a sophisticated young girl who is fresh, funky, and free-spirited.
