Book Cover Design Brief

Hi there,

we are two German authors planning to digitally publish our first novel. In order to draw a lot of attention to our e-book we need an eye-catching cover design. That is where we need your help!

Here is the novel's synopsis:
Marie, a 29-year-old business analyst from Stuttgart, knows exactly what the man of her life should not be like: no colleague, no workaholic, no smoker and nobody with a tattoo. When she learns that her ex-boyfriend is going to marry, she throws all her caution overboard and spends the night with a man she has just met. Monday morning she is in for a surprise: her one-time lover turns out to be her new colleague! And in every other aspect, too, Karlo seems to be the embodiment of Marie's no-go-list.

The character's looks: Marie is tall, has long red curls and light skin. Karlo is also tall and has very short light brown hair.

The title of the book is "Verplant verliebt" which cannot be translated into English without losing some of its meaning.

While "verliebt" is best translated with "in love", the German word "verplant" has two meanings:
a) over-scheduled, making too many plans (Marie loves to make plans and to write lists like her no-go-list, to-do-lists ...)
b) to be out of it (Marie does not recognize her Mr Perfect when he stands right before her eyes)

Requirements

Must have

• This is a book for women, romantic, funny & smart. So please stick to the genre, the cover has to show on first glance what to expect.
  
  Technical requirements:
  
  1. The cover needs to be legible and good-looking when it is reduced to a small icon the size of a stamp. This will be the case when the book cover is shown in a list with lots of other book covers.
  
  2. The design should be in colour, but it should also work in black and white as a lot of e-book readers do not display colours.
  
  3. We need a jpeg with the following measurements: ratio = 16:10, the longer side with at least 2500 pixel.
  
  4. As we want to publish our book in several online bookstores and maybe one day as a printed version, we ask you to provide us the original photoshop-file. Each digital bookstore has different requirements with regards to file size and width-to-heigth-ratio. Therefore, the cover design should be scalable to different ratios.
