any color preference?

And why no transparency? the iphone buttons are rounded, without transparency would be a rectangle icon...

Transparency, rounded corners and drop shadow are automatically added to the app icon by iOS. The icon hence needs to be flat and perfect square. You are right, BUT if you want to make a custom icon and you don't want the standard crop and reflection, you could do it, quote: Note: You can prevent iOS from adding the shine to your application icon. To do this, you need to add the UIPrerenderedIcon key to your application's Info.plist file.

So, if you want for example one corner to be square and the other rounded, you can do it with this simple string. Also I've seen a lot of (often dark) icon ruined by the reflection. You can make it by your self with your fav opacity.

Edit: the string is only for the shine not for the corner. Is impossibile to create an icon with not rounded corners. =)
